Open a WhatsApp chat with a QR code

Scanning opens WhatsApp with your number and a message already written, so the customer only has to press send. Works from print or a screen.

Somebody scans the code on your flyer and WhatsApp opens on your number with a message already typed. All they do is press send — and you know which flyer it came from.

Availability

Before you start

Write the number in full international form, digits only: country code, area code, number. For a Brazilian mobile that is 55, then the two-digit area code, then the nine digits — 5511900000000. No plus sign, no spaces, no dashes.

Decide the first message too. It is the part people skip, and it is the part that works: "Hi! I saw the code on the menu and would like to book a table" tells you where the customer came from and saves them the awkward first line.

Steps

  1. Open QR Codes and select Create QR Code.
  2. Choose Dynamic and select Continue — this type is worth making dynamic, see below.
  3. Under Select QR Type, choose WhatsApp.
  4. Fill in: - WhatsApp number — digits only, with the country code. - Message (optional) — the text that appears already written in the chat.
  5. Give it a Title, then select Create QR.

Why dynamic is the better default here

A dynamic WhatsApp code does not put a page in the way. Scanning redirects straight to the chat, exactly like a static one — but the number and the message stay editable after the code is printed, and every scan is counted.

That matters more here than for other types. Phone numbers change, staff change, and a printed code pointing at a number nobody answers is worse than no code at all. A different message per flyer also tells you which print run is working.

Static carries the number inside the image. It works with no CodeQR in the path, and it cannot be changed or counted.

Verify it works

Scan it with a phone that does not have your number saved. WhatsApp should open on the right number with the message in the box, unsent. Read the message once more on the phone screen — text that looks fine in the editor often reads long on a phone.

Troubleshooting

The number is not in international form. Digits only, country code first, no + and no punctuation. A Brazilian mobile without the 55 prefix will resolve to some other country.
